I spend one night at the police station

I spend one night at the police station, actually there were five of us. however it wasn't exiting at all. We were not offered any facilities such as cell, food and tea or coffee. Well we were not arrested officially, but we voluntarily decided to spend the whole night as one of our collegue got arrested. He had royal treatment though, he slept, rested and had food after a long demonstration at parliament square.
If you want to complain about the treatment you had from the metropolitan police officer you can.
please visit this site where you can put a complaint. Please send your views and support them to change the policies. https://secure.met.police.uk/complaints/
Thousands of Tamils have demonstrated over a month to bring awareness around the tamil genocide that is taking place in Sri Lanka.
So far 10 000 tamils got killed with in two months, 30 000 wounded, 150 000 facing death due to starvation.
Sunday night many tamils gathered at westerminister square and numbers increasted monday morning as Indiscriminate barrage of shelling by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) on the 'safety zone' started from Saturday night to Sunday morning slaughtered more than 2,000 civilians including large number of women and children, medical sources in Vanni said quoting the injured who managed to reach the makeshift hospital. Dead bodies were scattered everywhere and 814 wounded managed to reach the makeshift hospital up to 9:25 a.m. said the doctors from Vanni.

I happen to be one of the protestor arrested on this particular day, amongst many others.

I can tell you that my own experience was not a pleasant one, certainly not a royal treatment. Let me tell you from the beginning what actually happened..

I joined the demonstration at parliament square, after seeing news & video’s of the 2000 Tamils who were slaughtered over the weekend by the Sri Lankan government.
The protest was very peaceful, as we all sat on roads & payments rallying for Britain to take action against Genocide on Tamils in Sri Lanka. The metropolitan police officers who were at the seen requested us to move away from the highway area, which we all were happy to do so. As we obeyed the officer’s request to move away, I had got up and walked away with other Tamil Diaspora, At this point in time the met officer pushed me from behind with brute force for no reason and removed a rack sack which I was carrying.

I asked the met officer ‘Why you pushed me ?’ and to explain his reasons…..
And all of a sudden about 10 other officers surrounded me, forced me to the ground and hand-cuffed me for an assault on the met officer. I quite simply did not understand why I was treated like a criminal. (more like an animal)

Then after I was taken to a central police station for questioning, stripped all my belongings and remained in a cell for 8 hours. Followed by a formal interview with a sergeant, calling for witnesses to support the so-called assault on met officer. Which I was accused off…

To the best of my knowledge, I had not done anything wrong. Why are the Met police in London treating the Tamil Diaspora in this way.?

We, the international Tamil community want peace in our homeland, fighting for our independent state (Tamil Eelam)

The British government & the met police should support our cause and join with us..

I would be happy to here you comments & please share your experiences with me..

Dear Sir,
I heard what you said, I have been to the police station myself argueing with the police officers to release those they arrested immediatly. When they said they cannot discuss the case with me as it is confidential, I said I will not leave the station untill they get released, they said feel free to stay here, thinking that I was alone and I wouldnt stay. However I called number of people and we stayed at the station, kept all police officers wide awake:):) I have myself stayed at the police station for almost 8 hours. I can promise you one thing, I am not going to leave this issue here, I am going to take it further, I will dicuss with the relevant people, we will surely discuss how to proceed this matter. What happpened to you was unfair, I totally agree with you and WE WILL NOT LEAVE THIS ISSUE HERE. Know if anyone treated you like an animal, that person is surely worst than an animal, will be surely treated as one by others. 60 tamils got arrested yesterday and got released same night. However I believe those 60 tamils and non-tamils need clear explanation around why they got arrested. One of my friend got arrested at the demonstration, he was white, however they hand cuffed him and threw him in the van and he was treated like an animal too. So It is just not tamil diaspora got treated like this, those non-tamils who were arrested had same or worst treatment.
In 1948, the very year that the British handed over the Sri Lankan Government to the Sinhalese majority on a platter without any safeguards for minorities, the Sinhalese-dominated government passed a law rendering half the Sri Lankan Tamil population stateless in the land of their birth. Britain has a not only a historical obligation to solve this problem, but it is both bound by legal and ethical obligations. To repeat again what "illusions" had said 10 000 people got killed, 30 000 wound 150 000 people are facing death due to starvation, this is clearly genocide. under Article I of the Genocide Convention, the British government has a legal obligation to prevent this expected genocide of the Tamils by GoSL. If UK doesnt realise this, then surely it is complicit in genocide.
Keep UP Your good work !!! We are right behind you !.We are only doing our Dharmam, Dharmam will rule at the end.

A Victem Not A Criminal said...

I want to share my experience I have had with the met police. I went to police station to complain about a serious crime which was going on. A police officer took notes of what I said and took away the evidence I had with me to copy and came back with it. After a day the police officer called me and let me know that they had forgotten to take copies of the evidence, and wanted to come and collect it, which they did. After a week time another officer had called me in, he wanted to repeat everything again. ( I realised that they were treating me as a criminal. With all the evidence I had provided them, I also had the name, phone number, address of the person who had commited the crime, at the same time the person was still doing the crime same places I mentioned. The met police had done nothing for 6 months and dropped the case. ( sadly many people got effected by the crime this person was doing )

I would call tamil diasporas as victems and not criminals. They are victem of a crime commited by the Sri Lankan government. Most tamils got family members in Sri Lanka who is being brutally tortured and killed for being born as a Tamil. The tamils have lost lots of family members, relatives and friends. That is why we are demonstrating for our freedom and peace. Nothing ever happend on any demonstrations the tamils have done so far, all are very peaceful, 200 000 tamils demonstrated in London and no one got hurt, nothing got broken but still the met police is treating the victems as criminals.

The police also one time drove over a lady who was crossing the road, and she died on the spot, the police officer did have his sirenes on but he was only going for a chinese take away..( sad )
on G20 demonstration the police pushed down a innocent boy so forcefully that he fell down and died on the spot.
When you report a crime they are to lazy to take action, but in any other cases they are really forward. I am highly disapointed in the metro politan police.
We are not in a 3rd world country, maybe they should learn ethics and behave in a way where people would respect them as Police officers.

Hi, I hear your stories! If you want to do something about this, please do a complaint, if you have the names of the officiers who treated you badly it would be good. If you dont feel like making a complaint, at least write to the policy makers so they can change their policies, so you can influence/help the metropolitan police to develop in a way that is benefit to the society.
